Seun Kuti, the well-known Afrobeats singer, has been taken into custody following allegations of assaulting a police officer in Lagos. Earlier, Seun Kuti gained widespread attention over the weekend when a video of him slapping an officer went viral.
In a tweet, Ben Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, confirmed that Seun Kuti voluntarily surrendered himself at the state headquarters on Monday morning, May 15. Accompanied by his lawyer and a family representative, he cooperated with the authorities.
Ben Hundeyin tweeted: “Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative. He has been placed under arrest in line with the law. The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.”
