Ibrahim Musa Dabai has been convicted by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for tampering with Nigerian currency. He was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with coins that he claimed to use for making jewelry. The case was subsequently handed over to the EFCC for investigation. During the investigation, Ibrahim admitted to converting coins into jewelry for commercial purposes for the past 25 years.
The charge against him stated that he voluntarily engaged in tampering with Nigerian currency by using coins issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria to produce jewelry. Ibrahim pleaded guilty to the charge, and the prosecution counsel requested the court to convict him. Justice Yunusa sentenced him to three months in prison or a fine of N30,000. The mutilated currency will be returned to the Central Bank of Nigeria for destruction in accordance with the CBN Act, 2007.
